Privacy Policy

Last updated: December 3, 2025

1. Introduction & Who You Are

MatchMe ("MatchMe", "we", "our", or "us") is an online platform that helps people find collaborators and form teams around early-stage ideas and projects, with a focus on long-term building rather than short-term gigs. Instead of traditional job postings or one-off freelance work, MatchMe is designed for individuals who want to co-create products, share responsibility, and grow something meaningful together. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect your personal information when you visit our website or use our services. MatchMe is operated by Maksym, based in Canada, and by accessing or using MatchMe, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy; if you do not agree, you should not use our website or services.

2. Scope & Applicability

This Privacy Policy applies to all personal information we collect through the MatchMe website and platform, including when you browse our marketing pages, create an account, or use MatchMe as a project creator, collaborator, or other registered user. It covers how we handle information from both visitors and account holders in connection with our services, regardless of where you are located. While MatchMe is operated from Canada, this Policy is intended for users globally, and depending on your place of residence (for example, in the European Union, the United Kingdom, or certain U.S. states such as California), you may have additional privacy rights under applicable local laws, which we describe in the Your Rights & Choices section.

3. Key Definitions

Here's what we mean by certain terms in this Privacy Policy:

Personal information means any information about an identifiable individual, or information that can reasonably be linked to an identifiable individual. This can include, for example, your name, email address, profile information, project details you submit, and certain technical data associated with your use of the Service.

Service means the MatchMe platform, website, and any related products, features, content, or services we provide.

We, Us, Our refer to MatchMe, operated by Maksym in Canada.

You, User refer to any individual who visits our website, creates an account, or otherwise uses the Service.

Controller (for users in the EU/UK, where applicable) means the entity that determines the purposes and means of processing personal information. For MatchMe, the controller is Maksym, operating MatchMe.

Processor means a third party that processes personal information on our behalf, such as our service providers (for example, Supabase for database services, Vercel for hosting, and PostHog for analytics).

From third-party authentication providers

If you choose to sign up or log in using a third-party provider (such as Google or GitHub), we receive certain account details from that provider, such as your name, email address, profile image, and a unique identifier that lets us link your provider account to your MatchMe account.

6. Why We Collect and Use Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

To provide and operate the service

We use your information to create and manage your MatchMe account, let you build and edit your profile, create and manage projects, and connect with other users. We store this data in Supabase, which we use as our primary database to keep your account, profile, and project information available and in sync across the platform.

To improve and personalize MatchMe

We use analytics data from tools like PostHog to understand how people use MatchMe, which features are working well, and where users get stuck. This helps us fix bugs, improve performance and design, and, over time, personalize your experience - for example, by showing more relevant projects or profiles based on your activity and preferences.

To communicate with you

We use your contact information to send essential messages, such as verification codes, login security messages, and other transactional emails related to your account or activity. We may also contact you about important updates to MatchMe, including changes to this Privacy Policy or our Terms, and critical security or service-related notices.

For security and fraud prevention

We use technical and usage data to protect MatchMe, our users, and our infrastructure - for example, by monitoring for suspicious activity, preventing abuse of our authentication system, and detecting attempts to compromise accounts or the platform.

For legal, compliance, and record-keeping reasons

We may process and retain certain information to comply with applicable laws, respond to lawful requests (such as from regulators or law enforcement), enforce our terms and policies, and resolve disputes. Where required by law (for example, in some jurisdictions such as the EU/UK), we rely on different legal bases for this processing, including performing our contract with you (operating your account and the service), our legitimate interests (improving and securing MatchMe), and your consent (for certain optional features or communications).

7. Cookies & Tracking Technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies (such as local storage and small tracking scripts) to help our site function, keep you logged in, and understand how people use MatchMe. Cookies are small text files stored on your device; local storage is a similar browser technology that lets us remember certain settings on your device.

Essential cookies and similar technologies

We use essential cookies and local storage to make MatchMe work securely and reliably - for example, to keep you logged in, protect your account, remember basic preferences, and store your cookie/consent choices. These technologies are necessary for the service to function and are not used for advertising.

Analytics cookies and tracking (PostHog)

With your consent, we use PostHog to set cookies or similar identifiers and collect analytics data about how you use MatchMe (such as pages visited, features used, and basic device information). This helps us improve performance, design, and user experience. If you decline analytics in our cookie banner, we instruct PostHog not to track your activity and disable analytics event collection for your browser.

Your choices and controls

You can manage cookies through your browser settings, including blocking or deleting cookies. In addition, when you visit MatchMe, we show an in-app cookie banner that lets you accept or reject analytics cookies. Your choice is stored so we can respect it on future visits, and you can change your preferences at any time by adjusting your browser settings or clearing cookies and revisiting the site.

8. How We Share Information

We share your information only with the parties described below and only for the purposes set out in this Privacy Policy. We do not sell personal information in the traditional data-broker sense.

Service providers and processors

We use third-party providers to run MatchMe. They process personal information on our behalf and only according to our instructions:

Supabase: stores and manages our primary database for accounts, profiles, projects, and related platform data, and may process authentication/session information.

Vercel: hosts the MatchMe web application and static assets, delivers content via its CDN, and generates server, performance, and error logs that may include IP addresses and technical data.

AWS S3 / CloudFront (via AWS SDK): stores and serves uploaded files and media (for example, profile images or other assets) and may log technical request information.

Upstash (QStash / Redis / Ratelimit): provides queueing, caching, and rate-limiting services to help us manage background jobs, protect against abuse, and keep the platform performant and reliable.

PostHog: provides product analytics and event tracking so we can understand how MatchMe is used and improve the user experience, as described in the Analytics section.

Resend: sends transactional and other service-related emails (such as verification codes, login links, and important account notices) to the email address you provide.

Other tools: we may use additional providers for things like monitoring, logging, security, and customer support. These providers receive only the information necessary to perform their services.

Other users of MatchMe

Some of the information you choose to share on MatchMe is visible to other users:

  • Public or shared profile information - such as your name, role, skills, tagline, location, "About you," social links, and other fields you choose to display - may be visible to other users depending on your profile and visibility settings.
  • Project information - including project descriptions, "Why join?", tech stack, collaboration details, and other project fields - is visible to other users so they can discover and evaluate opportunities.
  • Messages and other private communications are not public, but are visible to the participants in the conversation and, in limited cases, may be accessed by us when reasonably necessary to comply with the law, enforce our terms, or investigate abuse, safety, or security issues.

Legal, safety, and business purposes

We may disclose information if we believe it is reasonably necessary to:

  • Comply with applicable laws, regulations, legal processes, or valid government requests.
  • Protect the rights, property, or safety of MatchMe, our users, or the public (for example, to detect, prevent, or address fraud, abuse, or security issues).
  • Facilitate a business transaction, such as a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of all or part of our business. In such cases, your information may be transferred as part of the transaction, and we will take reasonable steps to ensure any new owner uses your information in a manner consistent with this Privacy Policy.

9. International Data Transfers

MatchMe is operated from Canada, but we use service providers whose infrastructure may be located in other countries (for example, the United States or the European Union). This means that your personal information may be stored and processed outside of your home jurisdiction, including in countries that may have different data protection laws than the laws in your region.

When we transfer personal information across borders, we take steps to ensure it is protected in line with this Privacy Policy and applicable law. These safeguards may include using reputable providers (such as Supabase, Vercel, AWS, Upstash, PostHog, and Resend), implementing contractual protections, and limiting access to personal information to what is necessary to operate and improve MatchMe.

10. How Long We Keep Data (Retention)

We keep personal information only for as long as it is reasonably necessary to operate MatchMe, meet our legal and accounting obligations, and resolve disputes.

Account and profile data

We generally retain your account, profile, and project information for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account or ask us to delete your information, we will delete or de-identify your personal information, unless we need to keep certain data to comply with legal obligations, prevent fraud or abuse, or enforce our terms.

Logs and analytics data

Technical logs (for example, server logs, security logs, and error logs) and analytics data (including data processed by PostHog) are kept for a limited period of time that is consistent with our operational and security needs. After that, they may be deleted, aggregated, or de-identified so they no longer identify you.

Your rights to deletion

You can request deletion of your personal information as described in the Your Rights & Choices section. When we receive a valid deletion request, we will remove or de-identify your information, subject to any retention we are required or permitted to maintain under applicable law.

11. How We Protect Information (Security)

We take the security of your information seriously and use a combination of technical and organizational measures to protect it.

Technical measures

We use encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS) to protect data sent between your device and our servers. We rely on the built-in security features of our infrastructure providers - such as Supabase for database and authentication and Vercel for hosting and content delivery - to help safeguard stored data, apply access controls, and maintain secure environments. We also use other reputable providers (including AWS, Upstash, PostHog, and Resend) that implement industry-standard security practices.

Organizational practices

Access to personal information is limited to those who need it to operate, develop, or support MatchMe, and is restricted by role where possible. We aim to follow sensible internal practices around account security, configuration management, and handling of support data.

No absolute guarantees

While we work to protect your personal information and use commercially reasonable safeguards, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security, but we are committed to continuously improving our security measures over time.

12. Your Rights & Choices

Because MatchMe is operated from Canada, we handle personal information in line with the principles of PIPEDA.

Your rights under PIPEDA

Access: You can request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.

Correction: You can ask us to correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete.

Deletion: You can request deletion of your account and personal information, subject to our need to retain certain data for legal, security, or operational reasons.

Withdrawal of consent: Where we rely on your consent (for example, for optional features or analytics), you can withdraw that consent at any time. This will not affect processing that has already happened, but we will stop the relevant processing going forward.

How to exercise your rights

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at support@matchme.me with enough information to verify your identity and understand your request (for example, your account email and a clear description of what you want to access, correct, or delete). We may ask for additional details if needed to protect your account and the privacy of other users. Even after your account is deleted or a request is processed, we may retain limited information in logs, backups, or records where we are required or permitted to do so by law (for example, for security, fraud prevention, or accounting purposes).

Additional rights for users in other regions

If you are located in a region with specific data protection laws (such as the EU/EEA, UK, or certain U.S. states), you may have additional rights (for example, data portability, objection to certain processing, or restriction of processing). Where those laws apply to MatchMe's processing of your data, we will respect those rights; you can contact us using the email above for more information or to make a request.

13. Children's Privacy

MatchMe is intended for older teens and adults who want to collaborate on projects; it is not directed to children under 16 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16, and they are not permitted to create an account or use the service. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 16, we will take reasonable steps to delete that information and, if applicable, close the related account.

If you are a parent or guardian and believe that your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at support@matchme.me so we can review and remove that information where appropriate. If local laws in your region require a higher minimum age for online consent, we will follow the higher age requirement for users in that region.

14. Third-Party Links & Content

MatchMe may contain links to third-party websites or services, including links that users add to their profiles and projects (such as personal websites, GitHub, LinkedIn, X, or project sites). These third parties have their own privacy practices and policies, which are separate from this Privacy Policy.

We do not control and are not responsible for the content, privacy practices, or security of third-party websites or services. When you follow a link to another site or service, you should review that site's or service's privacy policy and terms to understand how your information will be handled.

15. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes to MatchMe, our practices, or applicable laws. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of the policy, and for material changes we may provide additional notice, such as a prominent in-app message or an email to registered users.

We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically so you stay informed about how we collect, use, and protect your information. Your continued use of MatchMe after any changes become effective means you accept the updated Privacy Policy.

16. Contact Information

If you have any questions or requests regarding this Privacy Policy or how we handle your personal information, you can contact us at:

  • Email: support@matchme.me
  • Operator: MatchMe, operated by Maksym Tarasov, based in Canada

If you contact us about your personal information, please include enough detail for us to identify your account and understand your request, and we will do our best to respond within a reasonable time.
